How I Test Matcha (Review Methodology)

I test every matcha the same simple way so my reviews are fair and easy to compare.

My Test Steps (Same Every Time)

  1. Sift 4-5g matcha into a bowl.
  2. Water temp: about 160–175°F (70–80°C).
  3. Whisk: fast in a W/M motion for ~20 seconds until small bubbles appear.
  4. Taste straight (no milk).
  5. Latte test: add 100ml of milk and taste again.

What I Look For

  • Color: Bright green = fresher; dull = older/rougher.
  • Aroma: Fresh, grassy, or seaweed-like vs. flat/stale.
  • Flavor: Sweetness, bitterness, and umami (savory).
  • Texture: Smooth vs. gritty.
  • Value: Price per gram and per serving.

Price-Per-Serving (Optional)

  • Price per gram: price ÷ grams in the tin/bag.
  • Price per serving: price per gram × 1g
